2024

Well, here we are at the beginning of another presidential election year. A time when politicians will inundate us with requests for our vote while making promises they cannot, or will not, keep — the very same promises that got them elected in the first place, for some as far back as 30+ years ago. Immigration reform is a prime example. Reagan was president the last time anything meaningful was enacted.

Promises not kept because they blame the other political party, the national debt or trade deficit, inflation or recession, internal strife or international conflict, too much spending or too many budget cuts, even the weather; anything and everything but self. It is part of the political game. Blame failure on the other official so claims of “I’ll fix it next term” can be used as a reelection talking point. What can we expect from elected officials who get 240 paid vacation days per year?

One military cadence call (Jody) begins, “Here we go again, same old s*** again.” It is likely election year 2024 will be characterized by actress Bette Davis’ statement to her guests in the movie All About Eve when she says, “Fasten your seatbelts; it’s going to be a bumpy night.” In we voters case, year.
