Toxic Femininity

In perusal of several definitions and meanings of Toxic Femininity, two common themes seem to exist throughout. First, the human female tends to internalize and embody, consciously or subconsciously, cultural principles or societal norms of feminine behavior. Second, women who eschew customary or traditional deportment may inculcate misogynistic manifestations. In other words, Toxic Femininity, “defined as Internalized sexism, is a form of sexist behavior and attitudes enacted by women toward themselves or other women and girls.”

It is interesting to note some definitions and discussions state the toxic traits of human males include misogyny and homophobia, yet both misandry (hated of or prejudice against men and boys) and homophobia are noticeably absent from writings of Toxic Femininity, as if women are incapable of either. This is farther from the truth and reality. Especially, since over this past decade there exists a plethora of foul-mouthed, sinister, and vicious video, verbal, and written expressions of violent domination against Presidents Trump and Biden, male members of the Supreme Court, Law Enforcement, and others, by “the fairer sex.”

One wonders if academia, media, and politics should realign the definitions and characterizations of Toxic Femininity to meld with today’s American cultural and societal use.
