The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) offers several means of communicating its ideas for public consumption. The organization’s website presents information such as “About Us,” “Our Work,” “Chapters,” “FAQ,” etc. Their Political Platform website entitled “Workers Deserve More” promotes their goals, objectives, and mission to create a new government for the United States – they say for the workers.
A few key elements include. Under “Who we are,” they believe “working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few.” In “What we do,” they are “a political and activist organization, not a party.” When asking people to “Get Involved,” they state, “working people should run both the economy and civil society.” With “There’s a million ways to be in DSA” they “make room for a variety of strategic approaches to fighting capitalism.”
On their “Workers Deserve More” website within “Our Perspective,” they state “We are workers fighting to transform society: … draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic.” In addition, “… complete victory will require building a new society from the ground up.” Plus, “DSA has written this program for ending capitalist oligarchy …”
Declaring “A Real Democracy,” they want to, “Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.”
By way of “A Democratic Congress,” they intend to “Replace the two-party system with a multi-party democracy. Expand the House of Representatives…, and abolish the Senate.”
One can interpret these to mean their new government for the United States is the House of Representatives, which shall make the laws, enforce the laws, and decide which laws are legal.
The DSA states it is “not a party.” However, in “Our Perspective” “The Democratic Socialists of America is building a party whose goal is a democratic society of the working class.”
Why might DSA members run for Congress as Democrats? They likely cannot win by espousing DSA’s afore-cited doctrine and agenda. Instead, they use the “big tent” dint of the Democratic Party.
If Americans and voters believe, feel, or think Congress is divisive and dysfunctional currently, with two main political parties, and “The Squad” and “Freedom Caucus” disruptors, imagine the potential for more chaos if several DSA members join the fray.
